Former West Ham attacking midfielder Alessandro Diamanti insists Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella isn’t earning enough recognition abroad.

The 27-year-old has now cemented himself as one of the pillars at Inter as well as the Italian national team.

He has already won seven trophies during his time with the Nerazzurri while featuring as a regular starter. He was also a protagonist with the Italy side that went on to clinch the Euro 2020 trophy.

However, Diamanti doesn’t feel that Barella is earning the plaudits he deserves outside of his native country.

The 42-year-old, who is currently based in Australia, considers the Sardinian midfielder to be an underrated player abroad.

“Sometimes I hear some talk about Barella here in Australia,” said the Livorno native in his interview with Radio TV Serie A via FcInterNews.

“However, Barella is underrated here abroad. But he is a regular player in the Italian national team.

“He is also a regular starter in the Inter side that won the Serie A title by a landslide. We’re talking about an excellent player.”

But whether this statement is true or not, Barella remains a fan favorite amongst Nerazzurri supporters worldwide.

The Inter faithful appreciate the midfielder for his high work rate as well as his fabulous technical skills.

This season, he has delivered two goals and three assists in his 33 Serie A appearances thus far.

The former Cagliari man has a contract valid until 2026, but the management is working on an extension that would push back the deadline until 2029, thus securing his services in the long run.
