Tennessee Titans Add Power to Offensive Line with $2.5 Million Signing

The Tennessee Titans are going through a full rebuild to regain their competitive edge in the AFC South. While there are plenty of areas the Titans need to address to become strong again, they are taking steps to turn the offensive line into one of the most elite units in the NFL.

Analysts have already identified the Titans’ offensive line as one of the most vital areas to fix this offseason, and they are already linked to multiple high-ceiling prospects in the upcoming draft.

They take it one step further by signing a talented lineman who suited up for the Washington Commanders last season.

Tennessee Titans reported to land Washington LG Saahdiq Charles

Mike Moraitis of Titans Wire reported that the 24-year-old lineman will be playing with the Titans after spending the first four years of his career with the Commanders.

Charles, who played for the LSU Tigers in college, didn’t get much playing time during his rookie season. However, he got more snaps as he stayed in the league. Moraitis provided more stats that will give Tennessee Titans fans a better picture of who he is as a player:

Over 11 games and 643 snaps at left guard last season, Charles allowed four sacks and 37 pressures. He has some experience playing at every position except center, but the vast majority of his snaps have come at both guard spots.

With his current NFL experience, he will likely be used by Brian Callahan’s staff as a guard. However, he also provides decent depth for almost every other position in the league. He needs to step up if he’s going to get another contract with the Titans, though.

Can the Tennessee Titans transform their offensive line?

Saahdiq Charles’ entry to the Titans roster shows how badly the team was when it came to protecting their QB.

In the 2023 season, the Titans offensive line allowed pass rushers to bring down their QB an astonishing 64 times. The New York Giants, Carolina Panthers, and Washington Commanders were the only other teams who fared worse than them. They also lost 445 yards due to sacks while having the second-highest sack percentage rate at 11.5.

It’s going to be a tough challenge for Callahan to make the O-Line competitive again,. Hopefully, Charles can provide the quality of protection the Titans badly needed last year.
